Borough registered their first points of the decade with a hard earned victory over the reds from Woodnesborough on a sticky surface which tested both sides passing ability. The greens started the brightest and Isaac Carney finished off an Adam Wernham inspired run after two minutes with Archie Irvine adding to this within five with a well taken finish. Despite the conditions, the Ashford lads played their way patiently through the field and were inspired by a super Cameron Hopley performance at left back; not just content to mop up the opposition's sorties in to Green territory, his distribution was first class with lots of Borough's attacks starting from his accurate passing. The visitors had a great opportunity to get back in to it in the second period from the penalty spot, but Ben Chapman maintained his clean sheet with a smart save. His resultant kick was nodded on by Carney to Wernham who released Steven Flack and he made no mistake after cooly rounding the keeper. Irvine then secured a brace for himself to cap a fine performance and the points were Borough's. George Lancaster put in an excellent shift at centre back and really did epitomise the hosts performance by making sure he found a green shirt with each and every one of his passes away from danger. A special mention has to go to the Green's parents - thanks everyone for helping to 'transfer' the nets at such short notice and last but not least, well done to our young ref; he made sure that this game ebbed and flowed really well with sensible decision making throughout.
